Stopping to get food while you’re in labor..? Lol

I have been watching a lot of YouTube labor vlogs and a lot of the couples will stop through a drive through and grab something to eat on the way to the hospital! I’m super curious if people think this is actually a good idea or a bad idea? I am pretty sure I have heard once you are there you don’t eat until baby is out which can last for hours and hours! What did you/would you do?

The reason most hospitals don’t let you eat or drink during labor is Incase of an emergency they are able to put you under anesthesia without as much worry. Some hospitals are changing their ways, but not where I am. Even if you are being induced you are not allowed food or drink until after the birth.

Yes! Eat. If I hadn’t eaten before having my daughter I don’t know that I would’ve had the energy to push. Also as soon as she was born I was starving and asking for food. 😂🤷🏼‍♀️

I'm sneaking in snack food this time. I didn't get to eat or drink for 17 damn hours last time. So, I'm making sure I have a bottle of water and at least some pistachios this time around. My ob said as long as it's 2-3 hours before hard labor, it's not really a big deal. But I'm delivering at the same hospital I did last time, thanks to the military, and their bedside manner sucked.

most hospitals won't let you eat. for my hospital they don't let you eat once you're 4cm dilated.

Withholding food is not evidence-based and severely outdated. Please keep in mind they can’t not “let” you do anything. I mean, they can say they won’t bring you a meal, but if you choose to eat, they can’t tackle you and take the food. I personally felt comfortable eating and so I did. They tried to tell me I “couldn’t” and I just said ok, thanks for the recommendation and continued on. Again, this is what I felt comfortable with after doing my research. If a hospital refuses liquids, that’s just absolutely absurd (even moreso than the no food) and I’d laugh at anyone who tried to tell me that. Hospital policy is not the law. 👍🏻

At my hospital, they let you eat light snacks up until they start pitocin if you’re being induced. It’s to protect against if you have complications and have to be put under. If you just go into labor and are heading to the hospital, I’d grab something, too.

If you eat don't over eat. When my water broke with my son i ate a half of bagel even tho I could have ate a hella of alot more. Then drank a bit of pop.  (But the hospital I was at offered me to drink during labour here and there)  
If you eat have a light snack don't have a meal.  Just incase of and emergency.
