Maternity leave?

When is the best time to go on maternity leave? With my last child I waited until the week of my due date. This time around I’m unsure there is a greater risk because my job is more physically demanding. My supervisor is ok with putting me on no work available but i still have so long!

My water broke at work with my first and I’ll probably wait just as long this time haha
In my opinion, my 12 weeks unpaid leave will be better spent with a baby than sitting around waiting to go into labor.

I get 12 weeks of unpaid leave. I plan on working up until I give birth.

Depends where you live if it makes any difference in the time you get after birth. In CA, the time you take beforehand (assuming you aren’t put on bedrest extremely early on) doesn’t impact time after birth. There are 17 weeks allotted to disability and the optional 12 weeks of baby bonding after birth. The 17 weeks I assume is to allow some time for women who end up on bedrest but normally, the doctor puts you out of work at week 36. With a vaginal delivery, you get 6 weeks after birth or you get 8 weeks for c-section. So if it’s all normal, you’d use about 10 of the 17 weeks of disability then use baby bonding if you can/want to.

I only get 12 weeks FMLA. So I’m waiting until I deliver. I say if your job allows and gives you more time, to go as early as you like. Its always nice to get that time before the baby comes. I’ve seen what some women get as far as time off and I’m really jealous. I feel like mothers deserve more. I’m already dreading leaving my baby and this is my 3rd. It’s never easier....

I don’t plan on taking leave just bc I don’t get paid leave. So I’m hoping to work up until the day of basically.
