First period after miscarriage

My husband and I finally got pregnant after six (6) years of trying. Needless to say, we were ecstatic. We got excited way too quickly, bought numerous books and things for the baby. I'm a full-time student, so I had to struggle through morning sickness and pregnancy fog while writing scholarly papers and working on final projects. I ended up bleeding on December 6th, was sent to the emergency room and it was confirmed that I had miscarried at 6 weeks. I have been devastated. I sob everyday. Little things get to me, and I'll break down out of nowhere. When I saw my doctor, he told me to wait for three months before trying again, then if we don't get pregnant after two months of trying, he will prescribe Clomid or something of the sort. I find this odd that he would make me wait so long, since I'm about to be 33 with no children. Anyway, he said my first period after the miscarriage should come anytime now (which was around December 20th). I have no signs of getting my period as I usually would before pregnancy. My breasts are swollen and painful. I've felt nauseous here and there, even though the morning sickness disappeared the day of the miscarriage.

I had tested for ovulation randomly during the time between the miscarriage and now, and I think I found my peak ovulation days. My husband and I went for it, but now I'm testing negative for pregnancy. I'm getting pretty impatient, waiting for my period to start, and I was wondering what other women's experience with periods after miscarriage are like. Are there ways to stimulate your first period into starting? I should note that my periods came like clockwork before getting pregnant. I'm just lost now, since my app completely reset when I had the miscarriage, and can't give me any information about when things might happen.

Sorry for the long post! Please share your insight!
