Group B strep?

Anyone have this? I’m 8 weeks and my dr said I tested positive for it. She didn’t really explain anything, I plan to switch dr because she doesn’t tell me things so I’m a little confused. Is this harmful or what?

I didn't know they tested for that at 8 weeks.  It means you will have to get I've antibiotics when you go in labor . I'd ask to be retested at a later week. I didn't even get tested for it until I was like in the third trimester

It's not harmful at all. A large number of women, like 50%, have it.

They usually do a regimen of antibiotics if you test positive, and then they’ll retest at 30 something weeks. If you tested positive the first time, they always treat it during labor anyway. It just means you’ll need IV antibiotics, at least two rounds, before the baby descends into the birth canal. The reason for this is because Strep B is usually carried in the digestive tract, but can be found on the perineum, and can be harmful to the baby if they contract it, most often through bodily fluid exchanges at birth. As long as they use the antibiotics, the risks are very, very low as long as you receive treatment. It also doesn’t really change when you go it. You’d go to the hospital immediately if your water breaks, and you go in if contractions are about 5 minutes apart.

When you get the antibiotics make sure they dilute it with saline and ask for an ice pack. It’s pretty painful. My arm was burning like crazy

I only got checked at 36 weeks. 
I heard you just need antibiotics during labor but I've never tested positive
