Nitris gas?

They just told me have this as an option? Never had it and not sure effects? Pros and cons?

It made me sick with my first labour then with my second I used it inbetween contractions to help me calm down because it wasn't doing anything for the pain during them and my contractions were coming so fast that my body needed the help inbetween them. I also used it both times getting stiches afterwards (2nd degree tear both times) and that worked well.

It’s an option at my hospital. I haven’t used it but my dentist’s wife (haha) did. Being a dentist, he was able to give me some points on it. First, important to understand it’s really a comfort measure and not necessarily a pain-relief method (though some call it pain-relief). It may lessen your awareness of pain through relaxation, but you will still feel contractions. A huge benefit is that it’s self-administered so you have control over when you use it and how much you use. It doesn’t stay in your system, so if you try it and don’t like it, it will wear off within a few minutes.

My hospital has it and I plan on using it!   It’s newer in the US but has been used in Europe for a while now.  I would probably have hesitations if it wasn’t a standard procedure at my hospital, but from the way my teams described it to me, it’s very safe and while it doesn’t remove the pain it helps you not focus on it.

I’m trying it this time! To be clear it’s not REALLY pain relief. It’s more about calming and helping you relax through contractions. The pro is that the effects are felt only while breathing the gas so you can use it during contractions and be normal between them. You can also usually use it while being up and walking around. 
I don’t know too many cons but I do know some people react poorly to it usually with nausea.

It’s standard in Hong Kong - I think coming from UK common practice (most Drs here are UK trained). My midwife walked our antenatal class through the practice - you inhale “gas and air” before the peak of the contraction so you get the relief at the worst point. It’s out of your (and baby’s) system quickly so it’s a first choice over opioids or other harder pain relief methods.

This is an option at maternity hospitals in Ireland.  I used it during labour of my previous pregnancy - I wasn’t dilated enough for epidural so tried this as interim measure.  All it did for me was to make me vomit!

Labor. My hospital is just starting this option Monday. I have no clue about it. Wondering if anyone has used it for labor before and effects on oxygen levels of unborn child. Along with positive/negatives.
