Can someone educate me on the actual importance of taking prenatal?? Is it really bad if you don’t take them?

Have you heard about spinal tube defects? That’s generally what prenatals prevent.

I know some people stop taking them because they make them sick. I would encourage you to take them throughout your pregnancy. It is recommended that all women of childbearing age take a prenatal daily. Also, the folic acid and DHA is really good for the baby. If your vitamin makes you sick, definitely try eating before you take it and try various brands. It’s something we can do to help keep ourselves and baby healthy. 😊

It’s one way to ensure baby gets everything it needs without planning diet to include it all!

Just get Folate or B-Complex if you can’t take prenatals. Unless you’re iron deficient. I don’t take prenatal vitamins because I have elevated iron levels. So OB prescribed Folate and told me to continue with my monthly vitamin b injections and to take B-complex if I could.

To those who have been getting sick from their prenatals, look into Pink Storm Foundation- their liquid version. I’m 30 weeks and suddenly my prenatal makes me violently sick. Normally I’d hate the idea of a liquid version, but it’s so much easier on the stomach.

they’re to help prevent spinal tube defects. I didn’t believe in them after they made me really nauseous every time. But I learnt to never take them on an empty stomach and that helped. Also, after taking them consistently, they really boosted my energy levels. I couldn’t take them after 5pm because otherwise I wouldn’t sleep 🤣 they are really expensive which is annoying, but I would definitely say they’re worth it. I tried Blackmore’s (twice a day) first and didn’t like them, but Swisse ones were great!

Every type I tried made my already bad sickness even worse so I only took them for a few weeks in the beginning. My doctors all said that it’s fine that I don’t take them-& I’m a vegetarian at that so I already don’t get the normal protein & what not. 37 weeks & baby boy is growing right on track & has looked great in all of his ultrasounds
