Becoming a MUA ??

Question

Ok so I love doing makeup and people always tell me I should be a makeup artist. I’ve always had the idea in the back of my head I just have no idea how to build clientele 🤦🏾‍♀️ any tips on how to get and keep loyal customers?

I think these days you need to be really active on social media, especially IG and FB. Make use of hashtags and follow lots of people, but be smart. Follow those who are clearly into wearing make-up (e.g. look at their profile pictures).  Start off by doing make-up (for free) on friends and family. They’ll be willing to help out, it’s free for them and free advertising for you. Take lots of pictures of your work from different angles, concentrating on full face as well as highlights and eyes. 
Once you’ve established yourself advertise with introductory offers. There’s no point trying to compete with established artists with qualifications because people are more likely to stick with who they know and trust for the same price. Offering a full face with lashes for £10/£15 (or equivalent currency) is going to draw people in. You just need to offer a cheaper face for a few weeks until you start getting more interest. Also stating when your offer will end will drive people to panic book 😂.
Get as many people to take pictures of their face and upload it to social media and tag you in it. This will increase your exposure.
You’re also going to what to show you can do different looks. I find most people these days have one look, and that’s full caked on face with dramatic eye looks. Which look fantastic when you’re young! But then they upload pictures of the SAME look on women in their 50s/60s/70s and it looks awful. As skin ages and changes, so should your style of make up to compliment it. Also some people will want to pay for their make-up to be done but they will want to keep it light. Always listen to what the client wants and advise where appropriate.
And lastly if you haven’t already, look in to becoming qualified. It’ll set you apart from other unqualified freelance artists, plus you can put your certificate in a frame and hang it on your wall 😂

Make a website :) and post your website/ job on local sites people look for to find shops or businesses 
Like my community has this local magazine and shows what’s happening in the community and different shops. You could also publish a coupon in there tooo.
Also my church has a bulletin that has different things on it and on the last page it has sponsors on it or places that support them, some are even just parishioners
