who’s watching the baby???

so i’ve just come to realize i have 55 days or less of this pregnancy and i have no idea what we’re doing as far as who’s watching the baby while we work. i thankfully get 6 weeks off maternity leave, so i’ll have a little bit more time then to figure it all out. daycare here is ridiculously expensive. i’m so ready for him to be here, but then again this pregnancy did fly by for us. if i didn’t have bills to pay, i would definitely consider staying home or working part time. that’s just not in the books for us right now 😕

I’ll be taking off 4-5 months after baby is born (6 weeks disability and 6 weeks Paid Family Leave then the rest I’ll use my vacation and sick hours that I’ve saved up). Both of my parents are retired so they watch my kids for me. I know not a lot of people have this option. I feel very blessed to be able to have that and definitely don’t take it for granted.

I am taking 4 months off; it will be completely unpaid as my work doesn't offer any type of leave. When I go back, I am going to go back part time (Tuesday-Thursday) and my mom will be watching baby because she is a stay at home mom to my 9 y/o and 4 y/o brothers. The daycare I wanted to use was 250/week. Which we could do if necessary, but my mom said she would not let me pay that much for daycare 😅

Definitely don’t wait! The waiting lists to get infants into daycare can be months and months long. I will be staying home with baby, but I know from friends that it’s tough to land a spot in daycares. And yes, they are crazy expensive, which is why I may as well stay home. My salary would be basically covering childcare.

My friend couldn't quit her job, so I watched her baby while I was pregnant with my first (I quit my job after finding out I was pregnant. Long story). 
I knew already I was gonna be a sahm so I offered to help her. When my baby came 7 months later, she put her daughter in daycare. 
Try and find someone you trust, friend or family, to watch your baby.

You should call daycares or interview help now. When you start to get close bring your baby back to whatever places we’re your favorite and make sure you still get the same vibe. Trust me, the time goes quick and you’re going to want to make sure you 100% comfortable leaving your baby.

It’s definitely tough, I’m a full time college student and I was working part time, but I wouldn’t even make enough to nearly pay for daycare so it defeated the purpose of working . So I’ll be staying home with my son till I finish school most likely . Do you have any family members they would be able to take care of the baby, maybe for less than what a day care would charge? Eventually when i start working I hope to have a family member do that for me

I’m on the same boat. Not sure how long my maternity leave will be... I have to discuss that with HR but once I go back probably around May I need someone too. Luckily I have my summers off..
