Opinions please - not with father of the baby told him I want the baby to have my last name, what do you think?

Question

He told me what name he likes I said it's nice but can't decide on a name right now, as I may change my mind.
He said ah whatever as long as it has my(his) last name.
So I told him I want the baby to have my last name, then he said it should be dad's last name like it should which annoyed me.
Then he said it can have split name so use both out name which I think they sound stupid together.
Anyone else been through this?

What’s the reason you want the baby to have your name and not his? If he’s gonna be involved I would give the baby his last name.

I had my mother’s last name until I got married. I loved it, my parents weren’t together when I was born and my dad wasn’t around much. I’m so thankful she gave me her name.

You can always hyphen the two last names. And then you can just use yours but then it will have his too

I gave my child my last name, purely because I knew I wanted more kids, and I didn’t want two or more kids with different surnames all of whom would have a different surname to me 🤷🏻‍♀️

My daughter has my last name, her dad wasn’t involved at the beginning but he has stepped up. 
And I recently got married to someone else. 
So my daughter has this “random” last name. 
It’s not mine anymore, it’s not her dads. 
So I kind of wish she had his last name. 
I’m thinking about hyphenating my married name and her dads name

Men don’t automatically get kids named after them anymore. It’s an old school practice. If you want the kid to have your name, do it. Hell, I’m married, and my kids aren’t getting their fathers last name. Gotta do what’s right for your family, not blindly follow an old sexist tradition.

Depending on how the dad is... if he’s still going to be an amazing dad I’d give it his last name but if he’s going to be a let down no show than id use my own last name. My reasoning being just because we aren’t together doesn’t mean the dad is to the curb from my kids life.
