How long should a 19yr old drive before getting license?

I’m 19 and due to health reasons of my parents I never learned how to drive until now. I’ve been “driving” on back roads and dirt lots for about 2 weeks now. My mom wants me to drive for 2 months before I get a license to put me on her insurance. Opinions wanted please :)

You need more experience in towns, on main roads, on a highway. Otherwise your first experiences you will be alone. Also I would say the timeframe is up to her if you’ll be on her insurance.

She needs to allow you to drive on main roads while with her. You can learn on back roads but I’m sure when you get your license, you’ll be using main roads with traffic.

My dad took me out to back roads when I was 16, that lasted for a while until I got the hang of driving and the basics. Then he let me out on the road, with him in the car, and I wasn't allowed to go to shops alone till got my permit at 17, license at 18.

Girl get it now, you’re an adult! The longer you wait the longer it’ll be until your insurance gets “cheaper”.. the longer you wait the more scared you will be of driving. I got my license last year when I was 23 due to me being epileptic.

I would drive as long as it took.  I would do different kinds of roads and traffic.
Theres a reason why minors need to have a permit for 6 months before they fet their licenses.

I’d honestly say even longer than 2 months. Maybe 4-6months at the least.  
Driving on back roads and dirt lots is absolutely nothing like driving on populated highways and streets.

Depends on your local laws. My husband had to wait a minimum of 6 months (and complete x-amount of hours) before being allowed to try for his license.

It’s not really an amount of time thing, more of just until you feel confident that you are good and will pass the test!
