Jordyn Leigh arrived January 7th
I hope you all enjoy reading this one and the picture of my little girl that I'm including because I can't help but brag about cute she is.
Due to gestational diabetes I was induced at 39 weeks. On the morning of the 7th we left our older daughter with my parents and headed to the hospital. I was all checked in and pitocin was started by 9:10am. For the record, I am incredibly sensitive to pitocin. During my first labor, I was given one small dose of pitocin after my water broke and was due to receive another several hours later, but my daughter was born an hour before I was set to receive the second dose. I also have fairly quick labors. 🤷🏽♀️
At 10am, the doctor checked me and determined they should stop pitocin and begin me on cytotec, as I was only 75% effaced and 3 cm dilated. By the time they tried to administer the cytotec, I was contracting too frequently and too hard, so it was back to the pitocin at 11 am.
As an aside- My nurse was amazing. She was so encouraging and supportive and went to great lengths to get a Monica heart rate and contraction monitor attached to me so that I could labor standing up and moving around. It made all the difference from my first labor and I'll be eternally greatful for her being such an advocate for me.
Since I had the wireless monitor, I was able to stand and lean against the wall to breathe through contractions. I did use the peanut ball and leaned over the bed for a while but found that I did better and had better breath control when I was standing. Around 2pm my nurse asked if I was okay to labor by myself for 15-20 minutes so she could go eat lunch. I assured her I was fine and that I wasn't having any rectal pressure. Well, the first contraction after she left, I began feeling pressure but didn't want to call the nurse even though my husband thought I should. I breathed through two more contractions and maybe 10 minutes before having him call the nurse back in. I've never seen my husband run as fast as when I said, "Call." 😂 Nor have I ever seen nursing staff
enter a room that fast. 😳 The nurse immediately had me lay down on the bed and checked me. I was at 9 1/2 cm and she called the doctors in. They wanted to get rid of the lip of cervix that remained and told me that if I stood up it would probably dilate to a 10. I breathed through 3 contractions on the bed, then stood up and immediately had to push. The doctors didn't even have time to drop the bottom part of the bed away, because they were afraid she'd fall on the floor. The nurse brought in a push bar and all I could think was, "I don't have time for that." She looked over at me and said, "Never mind, I see her waters." The OB/GYN told the resident that he'd better break my water unless they wanted to take a bath in amniotic fluid. 🤣
I pushed twice and she was out. Jordyn Leigh, 7 lbs 7 ounces and 20 inches long born at 2:46 pm, less than 6 hours after beginning pitocin, with no pain medication. It all went so fast that a week later, I'm still in shock that I went all natural. I'm so pleased with my delivery and so thankful to God for my husband, parents, friends, and nurse Julia who made it such a wonderful experience.
