Birth story đ LONG read.
Now that is been 5 months, I want to share my sweet Emiliaâs birth story.
My first trimester was pretty rocky. Started red bleeding the day my doctor confirmed my pregnancy (go figure) at around 4w4d.
I had the WORST throbbing cramps all night and of course, I thought that was it. The nurse at my doctors office told me to go to the ER the following day, just so I would know either way. While I was there I bled more, passed a bunch of tissue, had tons of blood work, an abdominal scan then a TV scan.
When the doctor came back, he had told me there were actually two sacs, but one was a little weird shaped. He figured one âtwinâ was varnishing. (Itâs a thing, itâs crazy!)
The following week I had another scan at 5w2ish days. When the OB came in she told me she thought I was going to end up with a blighted ovum, and that she wanted to evacuate my uterus. (She also said âoh, you wanted this?â to us as I was sobbing. We are in our 30s, not our teens!) I was hysterical! My husband was basically like âpump the breaksâ because there seemed to be some disconnect from one doctor to the next and we werenât feeling super comfortable. I had bloodwork, and came back the following week for another scan. There was a little embryo growing in there! Heartbeat and all. Only thing: the heart rate was only 71bpm at 6w4d.
The ob called it a very guarded prognosis.
We were on pins and needles as we waited an agonizing two weeks for our follow up. At 8w6d we went in and there was baby, looking like a little cashew and bouncing all over the place. I donât think Iâve felt that sort of relief in my entire life, and I donât think I will again.
My pregnancy after that was pretty boring. Had the usual ftm worries, was she moving enough? Was I drinking enough water?
I continued running, going HIIT 4x a week, and kept up with our usual social schedule. We had a baby moon in jasper and it was magic.
At 33w5d I went to my gym class, walked 1.5k before I caught the bus to work, worked an 8 retail shift and then went for mani pedi.
As I was washing my hands after my mani, I felt a pop and a gush. My friggin water broke.
I screamed for my friend and went to the washroom. Water was gushing out, as was some blood and it totally freaked me out. I was crying my eyes out and hyper ventilating.
My friend took me to the hospital and my hubby was meeting us there.
I was triaged super fast. They warned me that just because the water broke, doesnât mean baby was on her way. And then they checked me, I was 4cm babyâs head was right there.
They gave me steroids to help with her lungs, and shots for gsb as I hadnât had the test yet.
Contractions came in hard and fast, 40 seconds apart as soon as they started. I didnât have time for drugs, Baby was coming so fast! Dilated 4cm to 10cm in half an hour or so.
Pushing was hard for me, I couldnât figure out how to do it! Figuring out was the longest part, as soon as I nailed it- she was out in 2 or 3 big pushes.
Emilia was born on Wednesday, August 15 at 10:19pm weighing 5lbs even.
She stayed 12 days in the nicu because she couldnât figure out how to breathe. (Maybe itâs in her genes haha)
It was such a crazy, traumatic day that I stilllll cry about in the shower- but Iâm so freaking lucky to have 6 extra weeks with her. Sheâs such an easy baby. She must be making up for the first trimester and coming early!
Emilia 2 days old and finally I got to hold her â¤ď¸
