Diapering and rant
I was talking to my husband’s SIL (married to his brother) about my concerns with my mom having a diaper raffle (bringing in a pack of diapers gets you a ticket in the drawing to win a prize) because of some of the diapers that may be brought may not being hypoallergenic. I’m a FTM so I’m sure I am still quite naïve, but I mentioned to my husband’s SIL how I was worried some of these diapers may cause irritation on my baby’s skin. She kind of brushed it off and said, “I have never heard of any babies having a reaction to a diaper.” Kind of making it seem like my concern was irrational.
I have horribly sensitive skin and my mom had to use cloth diapers with my oldest sister and me. Regular makeup remover wipes burn my skin. I have to buy small batches of whatever skin products I’d like to use before I buy a regular-sized item because my skin is so sensitive. I also have eczema. My husband’s skin is also sensitive though not as much as mine, but he can’t even wear cologne because it makes him break out in a rash. We have tried testing a few oil-based ones and they all irritated his skin. There’s a chance our baby may have sensitive skin and may have a reaction to disposable diapers.
I’m mostly venting because I was so irritated that she made it seem it was impossible for some babies to have a sensitivity to disposable diapers.
Also, still annoyed at her when we announced my pregnancy and EDD that she said, “It better not be on [her husband’s] birthday.” His birthday is April 5; my EDD is April 3. Like, if I could fucking control my uterus, I would.
