what do I expect??

Hey guys, I’m getting the mirena IUD tomorrow. And I have no clue what to expect going into the doctors, ive never had an IUD, was always on the pill. So just a couple questions: Does it hurt during the procedure? Or after? Have you had periods or any problems on it? And lastly, have you had any weight gain? If you can help me out with any of these answers I would appreciate it 🙂

I took 4 Advil and hour before, as recommended by doctor. The most painful part of the entire procedure was when the doctor put a clamp on my cervix to open it up. The pain made me scream but all of my cramps went away almost immediately after it was done being put in. I walked two kilometres to get home and when I got home I realized I bled through four layers of clothing.

I took 800 mg ibuprofen and 1000 mg Tylenol an hour before and also got a Numbing shot and i didn't feel insertion. Cramps for a few days after and bleeding for 3 weeks. First period with it was 2 months later and I had contractions, they were horrible. I took as much ibuprofen as I possibly could. Haven't had a period since then though but I do occasionally get mild cramps but not even bad enough for a heating pad or anything. No side effects or anything other than no period

I’ve been on the iud for ten years. You feel some cramping, I didn’t gain no weight and no periods, but I will get the symptoms as of my period would be arriving. On and off spotting. But for everyone it might be different.
