Signs of autism
My son is almost 14 months old. He does not crawl, pull himself up, cruise, try to wall or go from a laying to sitting position. He doesn't wave bye bye, he doesnt respond to his name very often.
My mother has thought maybe he fits somewhere on the autism spectrum because he is so far behind in so many areas. We currently have birth to three services coming out to work with him and get him to where he needs to be. They will do an official screening for autism when he turns 16 months old.
I wonder myself if it could be autism or if maybe hes just lazy. I've always worried that I wasnt doing enough for him and that's why he is the way he is. His physical therapist through birth to three thinks it may be the opposite. I've always given my son anything he wanted or cried for and never made him work for anything.
He does babble, he says mama and dada and has recently started saying baba. He looks you in the face. He smiles and laughs and plays peekaboo. In some ways I see where he could fit on to the spectrum and others I think maybe he could just be lazy and taking his time with everything and cries because he knows I'll give him whatever it is hes wanting.
Does anyone have a child with autism and care to share their experiences with it? What were the first signs that your child had autism?
