Are iron levels checked at prenatal appt?

I have been on and off anemic over the years and now I’m pregnant. DR did blood work at first appt but I don’t know if she checked iron levels.  I did not mention, I have a history of being on & off anemic over the years.

I’m working with midwives and they keep an eye on your iron. They do all they can to reduce the chances of hemorrhage, while if you give birth in a hospital, their attitude is, “well we can give you a transfusion.” Better to be preventative, I say! So make sure your doctor knows you want to stay on top of your iron levels.

They should. I had anemia before and I’ve usually suffered through it a couple of times before but since I got pregnant, I take my prenatal vitamins every night which contain everything needed to prevent from getting low iron and not enough red blood cells 👍🏻

Your doctor should be aware and check it automatically I would say, but if in doubt give them a call.

I would call the office and let them know. They’ll check them anyway but depending on what they’re at, they may or may not call you. Mine were lower at my first visit and they didn’t tell me anything.
