When should I tell my coworkers I’m pregnant?

I’m currently 9 weeks pregnant and I am so nervous to announce my pregnancy to my coworkers because I don’t want to be treated differently.

I told my headteacher at 6 weeks because my morning sickness was only helped by snacking. I didn’t want her to walk in to my classroom and get mad that I was eating 😂 also, I wanted her to know in case of emergencies. I didn’t want to have to blurt it out if there was a problem! I think it’s w completely personal choice depending on where you work and how you are feeling!

I just told mine yesterday and they were over the moon!!!! I work in HR and the company is super family oriented. Everyone except for 2 people on my team have kids. ❤️ Several said they knew it and wished I would’ve just told them! I guess it was obvious when I INSISTED on getting chocolate milk alllll the time!

I work at two schools where I am quite close with the staff. We return to work next Thursday after the summer break and I’ll be telling them then. I’ll be 14 weeks by then but didn’t want to put anything on Social media until I’d got to tell my workmates in person. If we were back at school earlier, I would have told them when I hit the 12 week mark.

I told my boss and my division director at 10 weeks. My reasoning was: 
- I was barfing in our public, shared restroom and someone was likely to hear it at some point
- I was about to have to do a little rescheduling of meetings around doctor appts and I wanted them to know why I couldn’t have them at other times
- if something bad happened at this point, I’d sure as shit be taking some time off work to deal with the physical and emotional ramifications, and I’d want them to be in the loop
BUT, both my boss and division director are moms and very kind people, so I went into it knowing they’d be excited for me and supportive.

I told my boss soon after I found out- only because I work for a small family run business, so my role is vital and he deserved to know why I was taking constant and long bathroom breaks lol
Also to get him to understand why I may not be able to lift as much, or work as long (usually I’m working 5-6 days for 8-9 hours). He has a child so he understands.

I would say whatever makes you most comfortable. If it’s impacting your job and you feel like people should know then tell them! Also if you want their support.
With my first I told at 12 weeks but mostly because I was traveling for a big show and wouldn’t be able to lift heavy boxes, otherwise I was going to wait until 16 weeks. I also worked from home a lot so it was easy to hide!

I told mine around the end of my 8th week. My morning sickness hit me hard & im high risk so my boss needed to know in case of emergencies.
