Midwife?

Question

What's everyones take on getting a midwife? They are kind of rare around our area but are slowly getting more popular. This is my first baby btw.

Hello. Are you in the US? Midwives there might be different but where I live in Europe most women use them and have virtually nothing to do with doctors. We have much lower emergency C-Section and intervention rates than the USA and women tend to report having a more enjoyable and comfortable birth. I have a midwife and I do recommend them as they’re usually knowledgable and they will build a relationship with you and find out what kind of birth you are aiming for rather than try to medicalise it. If you do appear to be having any problems at any point they will ask a doctor to step in to help out so it’s not like you wont have access to a doctor if you need one. A good midwife will be a good person to have supporting you through pregnancy and birth :) x

The practice I go to has Obgyn and midwives. You see the entire team. You don’t know who delivers baby until it’s time but you are familiar with them all. A midwife delivered mine and she was fantastic. I pray she delivers my next before she retires in June!

I live in the US. We have midwives, OBs and also a lot of doctors in my area are adding midwives into their practices so you have an option. The hospital I delivered at has a midwife on staff at all times. So I had a midwife and my OB in the room when I delivered. Not going to lie, I loved the midwife. She was very calm and very supportive of any decision I made. With my first baby, the nurses at the hospital were awful and mean and pressured me into things I didn’t want and the midwife just kept saying, whatever I wanted, she would do. But research as you would a doctor.

Just really do your research on who's available and ask for referrals or to speak with prior clients. I currently have a midwife that just doesn't seem to be too excited about anything and has missed alot of crucial steps. I am now being transferred to an OB as a result. This is not meant to deter you in anyway from a midwife because I do still believe in their care , just not this particular one.
