When did your toddler stop nursing to nap/sleep?

My son is 18 months and he cannot fall asleep without nursing. He only breastfeeds twice; once for nap and once for sleep. I really would like to stop, but I don’t know how. Sometimes he cries in the middle of the night and the only thing he wants is to nurse. It’s really tiring. Advice? Thankyou :)

It’s a sleep prop. He’s using it to go to sleep because it’s been associated with it. You could start minimizing the time on each breast before naptime - gradually. That would probably be the less traumatic way. The middle of the nighttime nursing I would completely cut out, first. At 18 months, they’re smart little boogers. If you decide to cut it off in the middle of the night, do NOT give in. You could rub his head and repeat “night night” or whatever bedtime words you use. Leave the room, come back in five minutes, do it again- keep it up until he goes back to sleep. However long it takes. Do not give in and do not pick him up or take him out of his bed. He WILL get it. They’re smarter than we think. 😉 But the key is consistency!! It usually only takes a few nights maximum. With our first born- 2 nights. With our second born, it really only took one night. And they were much younger. Best wishes! Hope it all works out. ❤️

That’s just one of those things you have to just stop. Offer a soppy cup instead and eventually the screaming will stop
