Please read if pregnant!!! Possibly could have avoided loss of twin!

Ka

Went to the dr. 2 months postpartum because I felt pregnant, tired, weird pregnancy test results (chemical pregnancy) ect. Well my dr wanted to test my thyroid and my pregnancy test was negative. My thyroid was a THS reading of .12 healthy thyroid levels are .4-4.5 so she said that would be a sign of hyperthyroidism but since I just gave birth a few months before she wanted to retest in 4 weeks. Well I finally get in and re-test and my level is now .01. That’s really bad. Now she wants me to see an endocrinologist. But here’s the thing. I was researching the effects hyperthyroidism has on pregnancy because we want to go for baby 2 in the fall. And the effects of hyperthyroidism in mother on baby are intrauterine growth restriction, low birth weight, miscarriage ect.

I had a miscarriage of a twin at 9 weeks, and my other twin was diagnosed with IUGR and she was born 5lb 5oz and didn’t grow at a consistent rate. She’s healthy and perfect now no worries just a little sweet pea in the 3rd percentile. But I wonder if I could have held on to that twin If I would have known and been treating my thyroid issues. So ladies who are miscarrying and or are pregnant think about getting your thyroid checked! It’s just a blood test and god knows they poke us enough to have extra haha

I had no idea I had a thyroid issue, Ive been slightly overweight, chubby, athletic build. I’ve always really had to work to lose weight! So not what you would expect in someone with an overactive thyroid. The symptoms that I have that are also symptoms of hyperthyroid is occasional bouts of depression, racing heart rate, fatigue. On the flip side an under active thyroid (usually not always overweight) can also lead to miscarriages and other complications. So please learn from my experience and get it checked out. Better safe than sorry.
