Looking for sleeping tips for my new baby!
My precious little girl is just over 6 weeks now (I’m a first time mama bear) and the only way I can get her to sleep without a ton of fussing is to let her nurse and suck on me until she sleeps (I am breastfeeding exclusively at this point). Occasionally I am able to break her latch and get her off without her waking up crying, but most often she wakes up. On the odd chance I do get her off without waking her, when I set her in her bassinet for sleep, she often wakes up with her mouth open searching for me. I know that can mean she is hungry, but as soon as I let her latch she closes her eyes, sucks once or twice and then is asleep. I’ve implemented a bit of a pre-sleep routine this week: diaper change, swaddle, book, song, and then I try to make her drowsy enough to sleep. I’ve been told to try putting her into her bassinet frost but awake, however, I can’t seem to make her drowsy without letting her suck on me. She refuses a soother, I try again with it every so often but it usually upsets her more. I feel guilty and selfish for not allowing her what seems to bring her so much comfort, but neither of us get proper sleep this way. Any tips? I’ve set the room up as dark as possible, white noise, etc. Last place I posted this question I was basically told it was natural for a baby to want to suckle on me to sleep and I was stupid and for not considering my baby’s feelings. Don’t get me wrong, I find it very hard to not give her what she wants for comfort, but at this point it isn’t good for either of us. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
