Gone to far?

Re

Seeing a few articles lately and posts on here has me seriously questioning society. At what point do we think we may have we gone to far? At what point do we accept an apology and move on? Should people REALLY lose their livelihood over something that happened/or they said in the past whether it’s 2 years or even 30 years ago? Especially if they have apologized profusely, have changed their ways and mindset from what they were in the past?

A few examples that I can think of off the top of my head are

Ariana grande is now being accused of appropriating Japanese culture due to her tattoo on her hand

Kevin hart being labeled homophobic from past tweets/shows, to the point he has stepped down from hosting the oscars.

Va governor Northam pressured to resign for a picture/ party he attended where he portrayed black face/kkk member.

Jameela jamil is being dragged for being apart of an aerie campaign she said was inclusive, but others saw wasn’t only due to available sizing.

Some of these I’ve listed obviously are upsetting and have been addressed by the perpetrators, whether it be with an explanation as to why and/or a sincere apology. But it doesn’t seem that it’s “enough” to everyone, imo. To me it seems that for others it won’t be enough until the persons life is completely uprooted, dismantled, and thrown away. We’ve ALL, including you perfect Becky’s out there, have made mistakes in our past. Some incredibly worse than others, that they may not want to be relived. We’ve lived through those mistakes and have learned from them and hopefully apologized for them. At what point do we stop holding these over people? At what point do we stop bullying people into a miserable life?

This isn’t to say people shouldn’t take responsibility, potentially “pay” for their actions, but at what point has it gone to far? Does essentially killing a persons livelihood equate to payment? Is that fair? If you were in this persons shoes for your past mistakes would you be okay to be constantly ridiculed, to lose everything you’ve spent your life working towards? Would you be able to survive that hardship?

Has society gone to far?
