Is it an old school thing or a MIL thing? 🤔

Question

Baby girl got her ears pierced yesterday and my MIL watched her today while I was at work. 
I was telling her how I packed the liquid to clean them since I was rushing and didn’t have time to do it the morning. She proceeds to ask me if I gave her a little Tylenol for the pain.

I told her no to which she answers that I should have because she can have pain from the piercing. I told her I don’t like giving her medicine if I don’t have to. 
Baby girl is also teething, yay 🤦🏻‍♀️ so my MIL loves to constantly tell me I can give her some Tylenol to help with the pain from that

Is it an old way of thinking or is it just my MIL? 
Also here is a picture of baby girl with her earrings. This was about two minutes after they were done. Excuse her hair, it won’t go down anymore 😅

I mean, both of our Pediatrician's recommended Tylenol for bad teething days (like if no teether was working and baby isn't sleeping.)
It's personal preference, but it's not a crazy idea..

I take pain relief if I’m in pain. If my child seems to be in pain, I’ll give them pain relief too 🤷🏼‍♀️

If the baby is obviously in need of Tylenol then give it, but both my girls had their ears pierced and I didn’t even think of it. And for teething I don’t even think they needed it, after dental surgery my daughter had sone but that’s about it.. I think your MIL is just being a grandma and doesn’t want baby to know what pain is 😉

My MIL is tylenol happy too. I don't get it. If I were to give tylenol to my daughter for every ache and pain she'd have liver failure by now with all the bumps and bruises and bloody lips she gets from being a rambunctious toddler. I don't let my MIL watch my daughter alone though. She one of those that comes to babysit while my daughter is asleep and takes a shot of Jack beforehand. Not my type of babysitter so no thanks. Don't care if she's family.

I feel like it's a older generation thing for sure!  My grandma  (60years old) is always taking ibuprofen and always suggesting it for everything!

I dunno, I’d always give my kid Tylenol, especially after poking holes in her ear lobes. I wouldn’t pierce my ears without it, why make your kid?

Tylenol isn't something I give to my kiddo a lot either.  Only if she is in extreme discomfort.  For teething I've only done it a handful of times after I tried everything else first.  I'm lucky my in laws don't like medicine for everything either so they respect it.  They will try every other route before pulling out Tylenol as well.  And they always ask if it's okay to give first.

Tylenol is horrible for you any time. It depletes glutathione which is needed to create white blood cells and it weakens your immune system. We won’t buy it or have it in the house. Some people give it for everything and I just shake my head.

I am the same way. I don’t like to give my children medicine if they don’t need it. Like if my son has a slight fever I don’t give him anything for it. I let his body do what it needs to do. But his grandparents give it right away. I also didn’t give any Tylenol when he was teething other than a few times (he was actually a great teethed, hardly fussed). 
I’ll do the same for DD. When I can I let their bodies do what they are meant to do.
