Convertible carseat from the get-go or infant carrier seat first?

We are trying to decide if the infant carrier really makes life all that much easier? I’m a small framed person with no real desire to carry around a huge seat.. so I’m leaning more toward the convertible right off.. looking for opinions and reasoning..

It totally depends on the mom. I liked the infant seat because if I was running errands and baby fell asleep I wouldn’t have to wake them up by getting them out of the infant seat and putting them in the carrier. I especially liked it because if I had appointments where I couldn’t hold baby, I had a safe place for him to sit. I did switch to a convertible with both of my boys around 7mo just because they were getting too heavy at that point.

My parents actually gifted us a travel system that came with an infant seat that latches onto the stroller. So we've been using that but we're looking at getting the Graco 4ever all in one so we never have to buy another seat again lol. Her infant seat goes to 32 inches or 35 lbs. Whichever comes first. Weight wise shes got a ways to go but height wise she's getting too close. Figure with taxes coming soon itll be the best time to get the all in one. It does infant, rear facing, high back booster, and booster. 6 position recline. 5 pt harness. I'm in.

I know you only use the infant seat for about 5 months, but I think it would be really difficult to not have one.

We are pregnant with #7 and haven’t used one for the last three. I’m tiny and always had black and blue marks on my arms and where the seat hit my thighs. I’d prefer to sling baby anyway, you never get that time back!!

I can’t seat was a huge help for us. I had 3-4 appts per week for months postpartum (I have health issues) and I never could have gone to those without his infant carrier. Blood draws are less successful when holding an infant. We also like it for winter. Two weeks ago the feels like temp was -53. Cold and snowy days, we can put him in the warm seat, cover him up, and transport him.

I had a convertible seat and bought an infant seat last minute. I’m glad I did because it made my life soooo much easier!

We originally bought the convertible because we thought it was the best choice but this week we had to rush out and buy an infant carseat. 
Our hospital requires the seat to be brought into the hospital so they can make sure you know how to buckle the kid in properly. So my husband would have to  go unhook the convertible, carry it from the parking garage to the hospital. Bring it up. Hook the child in. Get it approved by whoever is in charge of that sorta thing. Remove the child. My husband would then have to carry it back to the parking garage and hope he somehow manages to hook it back in properly. Lets face it, he won't get it in properly, so I'll end up having to fix it later. After I just gave birth I will be in no mood to hold up the pick up line trying to hook that stupid seat back in. (Especially since I am a high risk for a Csection as it is.) Then after all that we can hook the baby in for the ride home... No thanks. We'll use the infant carseat. Much less hassle.

I LOVE having an infant seat!! I can put him in it in the warm house, cover it, carry it to the car and just snap it in place. I have a stroller it works with that allows him to face me. That kicked ass in the summer when he was too little to sit up in a stroller, plus we were able to use netting over it to protect him from bees and mosquitoes when he was too young for bug spray.

I have an infant carrier for when shes a baby, then when she exceeds the weight limit, I will be switching to the convertible

I was is the same position when i was pregnant with my LO last year, i wanted to go and just buy the convertible cuz i’m gna ended up switching anyways but i ended up buying infant carseat cuz 1. We live in NJ and he was born in September so it’s cold, 2. He ended up being 6 weeks early and needed the infant carseat cuz he was only 3 lbs 7 oz when he was born. 3. It’s more convinient not taking my son out everytime we go out specially when he’s asleep.
