Question regarding insurance for baby

I am on my fathers insurance still and can not add the baby. I have to get insurance for her.. but confused on the process. Do I have to wait until she is born or can I apply before hand? I should pick a pediatrician before she is here but I don’t know how to do that before she is born and I don’t have insurance set up for her.
