MS Genetic?

I know there’s a lot of mixed information whether MS is genetic or not...but my mother was diagnosed with PPMS at least 15 years ago.  I’ve read that pregnancy can bring out the symptoms of MS.  From someone trying to get pregnant I’m always in a panic about this.  Any one have a similar situation?

My neurologist said it increases your chances by about 4. So I had a 1/800 chance of RRMS given my demographics, but my daughter would have a 1/200 chance. Honestly, I think there’s going to be a lot more information in the next 10 years as we start to unravel the genome and figure out why some people progress very quickly and others don’t. 
As for pregnancy, often symptoms are held at bay for most, because your body is making stem cells for the baby. But after delivery, you are at higher risk for a relapse/ attack. That came from my neurologist, too. 
You might want to consider meeting with a neurologist and getting an MRI before becoming pregnant. It’s possible to have the classic lesions, but they be asymptomatic until they hit a tipping point, like pregnancy/post partum.

I can’t speak for all women but I felt fantastic while pregnant, aside from the typical pregnancy symtoms. My ms symptoms basically disappeared.  However I had a traumatic delivery at only 26 weeks and 5 days.  It was an emergency c-section with general anesthesia.  they would not do an epidural because of the MS.  I did not get to see my baby for 12 hours after delivery.  This was six weeks ago and my daughter is still in the NICU and will be there for quite some time still.  Now on top of the MS, I am dealing with severe post partum depression and PTSD.  
You will probably find that your ms symptoms lesson during pregnancy.  But keep an eye out and follow up with your neurologist soon after birth.  It is beneficial to meds as soon as your able.  Some are generally safe even if breastfeeding.  Coordinate with your doctor and your babies doctor to make sure.  Also watch for ppd and don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it.

I was diagnosed in 2014. Got pregnant in 2015. It was great. All my numbness and overall weakness went away. I said whatever hormones pregnan women make i need to take it in pill form forever. I was also told that it can cause a relapse after birth, but I didnt have that experience.
