Should I move in with my boyfriend?

I met this guy 5 months ago, and he’s the sweetest! Only thing, he wants to move in together. 
I’ve lived with SO’s before and it never works out, because I feel like they get too comfortable to commit and it kills the romance for me. 
So I told my boyfriend I did not want to move in unless we were married first, and he thinks we should move in first to ‘test the waters’ and see if we’re compatible..... 😕

I waited to get married before living with my husband and I wouldn’t have wanted to do it any other way. I agree that moving in before marriage makes men comfortable and postpones marriage. My marriage has been great and we learned to grow together and work through the hard stuff while married. Marriage is work and so is living together so growing both at the same time came naturally and no one had the “Ill just move out mentality” during the growing because the marriage added another layer of structure. You have more incentive to “make it work” when you’re married. I wouldn’t have done it any other way.

5months? I think you are rushing the relationship, I wouldn’t marry or move in with someone in such a short space of time. You are still getting to know each other, the relationship is in its infancy. Enjoy it, don’t rush it.

If you’re unsure of moving in together because of past relationships not working out after moving in together, that’s certainly NOT a valid reason to get married. 
Marriage isn’t a bandaid fix for potential problems in a relationship. You have to work to keep your marriage strong. Every. Single. Day. If you’re not ready to move in with him, don’t do it. But it definitely sounds like you’re not ready for marriage either, especially if you’re offering it as a either/or choice.

We got engaged after 5 months of meeting and dating. Married 7 months after that. Then we moved in together. Marriage means commitment, and that way you don’t both move in with the “I can leave whenever” mindset.

If he’s not being respectful of how you feel about it, your answer is right there. However, I moved in with my husband two weeks into our relationship and 4 years later we’re still obsessed with each other. 🤷🏻‍♀️ It’s different for everyone.

We were living together before we were together. He gave me a place to stay when I left my ex. About a month later I was in my own place but we still spent every night together. His or my place. We started trying for a baby within our first month of being official. Within the first week he told me we were going to be married. At 5 months, we were engaged. We were married 2 weeks before our wedding day. And I was 15 weeks pregnant.
Moving fast is not for everybody. But if it feels right for you, don't let anybody tell you not to.
Now to your actual question. I don't think this is something we can really give advise on... I can see both sides. I understand the reasoning to be married first and the reason to move in first. I think you guys need to sit down like mature adults and talk it through. I'm not sure there really is a middle ground on this? Being engaged with a date set maybe...? But this might be one of those arguments where someone has to give in.
If you are serious about getting married, then this should be no problem for you guys. Just another step along the way to learning how to be with each other.

My now husband and I had a 3 year relationship in separate homes then didn’t move in together till 3 months AFTER we said I Do. It was the best decision we ever made. We stayed at each others places, enjoyed hotels and spoiling each other in a way we knew we could never get back. We took our time dating because we knew we would get married but what’s the rush? If you know someone is the one, you can get through anything. We now appreciate and adore our home in a way I don’t think we would’ve if we moved in during a dating stage. At the end of the day, this is your relationship and you know what’s right. Just definitely definitely follow your gut and don’t do anything you feel is forced. Good luck!🍀
