Midwives Brew
Haven’t seen a recent post about the brew so thought I would share my experience and maybe get some feedback!
I’m 38 weeks, 2 days. Scheduled for an induction next week due to baby’s size. Dilated to 1 cm but baby is high and cervix is hard (this is before the brew). I started the brew at 1500 on 2/17. Only thing I did different was sub pineapple juice for apricot juice. Contractions started at 1630. Very inconsistent, mild intensity. By 1900, I was consistently having 45 second long contractions every 2-3 minutes apart. Intensity was moderate at this time. By 2300, contractions were still timing the same, but intensity was over moderate, but not quite severe. I couldn’t lie down without having to shake my legs through the contractions because they hurt so bad. This went on until 0300 2/18. And then they stopped. Lol
I did NOT have any stools at all during contractions. I did have one stool at 0900 on 2/18 but it wasn’t even soft, maybe because I take Iron supplements. I tried castor oil with my first baby and I had horrible diarrhea. So I definitely believe that the other ingredients in this brew counteracted the effects of the oil. I have a doctor appointment today. I didn’t go into labor, no, but surely something happened with nearly 11 hours of intense contractions! If I have dilated some more and my cervix has softened some, I will probably try again tomorrow evening. I’m definitely trying to avoid an induction here!
I will keep this thread updated!
UPDATE- I had my doctor appointment on 2/18 at 1100. Still dilated to a 1. Baby is still high and cervix is still hard. Planning for a two step induction on Monday 2/25 (cervidil and pitocin). At this point I am trying to decide if I want to try the brew again or just wait for my induction. Since it didn’t do anything at all the first time.
UPDATE #2- I drank another brew, again subbing the pineapple for the apricot juice. Had almost the exact same results as the first time. Again, no diarrhea. Just one hard stool. Baby boy is obviously just not ready to come! So eviction on Monday via induction is the plan. 5 more days!
