Do you guys think it’s okay to force your teenager to take birth control if they feel it’s bad for their bodies or they don’t want to take it ?

Having this discussion w some friends of mine and I was wondering what you guys think ? If you know they’re sexually active & you’ll be the one responsible for their child financially if they became pregnant
Disclaimer- (not my kid im currently 19 & pregnant w my first baby, an older coworker is having this issue)

Not OK at all in my opinion. How can someone sit there telling their child to respect their body and to expect others to respect their body while at the same time forcing them to take something that they're against??
Her body, her choice. If she doesn't want to take something, she doesn't have to. 
In this instance I would just make sex impossible for her. No boys in her room. No alone time with the boy. Depending on the age- shaperoning dates(in a fun double date type way if possible) or encouraging group dates with friends in public.
Controlling her exposure and controlling her body are very different things. Forcing birth control imo is neglectful, possibly abusive, and lazy parenting.

You can’t force someone to take a medication. Whoever the mom is really needs to sit down and have an actual conversation with their teen though about birth control and what it does with a doctor present.
If they’re still against it, make sure to talk about alternative forms.

NO. I would never force my child to take birth control. It wouldn't kill them to not take it so why force them to take something that messes with the body and they said makes them feel bad. I could see if it was something that would keep them alive or improve the mental health that that actually need and works.

Not at all.  I’ve taught my teenagers to listen to their bodies and also to be responsible with them. My daughter wanted to stop taking her allergy medicine because she didn’t think it was giving her much of a benefit and suspected it was making her add worse.  I told her she could go without it and see how she felt.  I want my daughters to know what’s right for their bodies and I think they’ll treat their bodies with more respect as a result.

No. It's their body and they're the ones being affected by it. Unless it's medically necessary, they shouldn't be forced to take it.

Hell no, they're old enough to make that choice and if they're stupid enough to get knocked up when they can't afford it that's nobody's problem but their own. People need to start enforcing personal responsibility again.

No, she needs to have a choice.. you can simply educate them on safe sex and birth control methods but what they do is up to them. The more you try to force a teen into one direction the harder they're going to push back. As long as you show them all of their options and give them as much non biased information as you could, then you did your part. It's important to guide your kid but not force them. You want to be a safe space for your teen, so they should have the freedom to do what they want with their bodies and not be ridiculed by a parent for it.. I think it's important to talk about what the teen would do if they got pregnant. To make sure they know about stds and how to stay safe. Maybe talk about other methods of birth control there are and how she personally plans on staying safe. Include as much as you can.. that the pull out method isn't very effective, maybe help her track her ovulation, theres the cervical cap and plenty of non hormonal alternatives like condoms. Knowledge is definitely power.

I wouldn't force her to take it, but I would offer other means of protection including non hormonal like copper IUD or condoms. I would make it more difficult for her to have sex if she refused those options, and I would also make it clear that making adult choices can have adult consequences like becoming pregnant and that I'm not in favor of or willing to support someone in that position, so she better have a solid plan for dealing with that if it arises.

Don’t be so quick to think you’d be financially responsible if she got pregnant. I got pregnant at 16 and had almost no help from my family, especially when it came to finances. 
But I digress. I think it’s a yes and no to your question. I don’t agree that you should force her. But I think it should be talked about with your kiddo. Has she been on birth control before? If not, why does she think it’ll be bad for her if she’s never used any??? If she has, talk to her about trying different types of birth control. If she’s sexually active then she needs to be responsible. I wasn’t and like I said, I had a baby at 16.
