Just saw my daughter's pediatrician for her two week appointment. She asked if the hospital had mailed us her newborn screening, they hadn't. She told us that she has the AC sickle cell trait? I guess me and her father, one of us has A and the other has C (which neither of us knew about it) so she got it from both of us. She said this shouldn't have any effect on her but that if she has kids later with someone else who is AC (and maybe CC? I don't remember) that their child could have problems assoicated with sickle cell. Anyone know more about this to clarify this for me. What do the A and C mean and is common to not realize you carry it or is it just this merging of the two that makes it a problem?
