Is Lillian okay with no nickname?

I really like the name Lillian, but wouldn’t want to call her Lily. Do you think it would work to call her Lillian exclusively? (I’m okay with Lily growing into her name/being an occasional nickname but I don’t plan for her to go by Lily from the start)

Everyone will use a nick name not all of them wil even be a shortened version of her name

I think it's perfectly fine. Some people might assume her nickname is Lily, but once you correct them it'll be fine. With my oldest my Gramma tried calling her Ali instead of Alice and I shot that right down.

I don’t get this obsession with nicknames going on right now. Give your child the name you want, and call him/her by that name.

People will give her a nickname (likely lily) regardless. I would name her with the preparation that people will call her that later in life.

Definitely! So long as you're okay with other people using Lily because no matter what she'll probably get that at some point and may choose it for herself someday.

Yes. My name is Cynthia but I refuse to let people call me Cindy.  People always ask if I go by Cindy and when I say no they just look at me like I have something wrong with me lol. My mom always said if she wanted people to call me Cindy she would have named me that. I like the name Cynthia and I hate the name Cindy 🤷🏻‍♀️

My name is Jaiden but with no “nickname” I guess until I got to highschool then I preferred jade. Some people called me both but i always introduced myself as jade which is technically a nickname. Parents never and will never call me jade bc I’m not jade to them. They have their own embarrassing nicknames tho lol just none for public

I love the name Lillian. You’ll probably have to correct people a lot at first, but I know people who have successfully kept their child from being called by a nickname.

I love the name Lillian!!  But realistically speaking people in school or what not will probably caller her lily at some point.  My husbands name is Christian and his parents did not want him called Chris.... That was his nickname all through high school and college.  It happens.
