A little upset...is this normal?

I’m 8w+5d today, and yesterday my doctor gave me a requisition for my first ultrasound including Nuchal translucency. When I called the ultrasound clinic they said I should go for a dating ultrasound first, but my doctor told me to just book my first one at 11 weeks with the nuchal.
Is it normal to not get a dating ultrasound? I want to see the baby so bad and hear the heartbeat and waiting another 2.5 weeks seems like hell.
I live in Canada, btw.

Yes, this is normal. When you are getting the genetic screening the dates need to be exact, so a dating ultrasound is required first to confirm how far along you are.

I know for me i asked my doctor for a dating ultrasound.. but i wasn't sure with my schedule so i booked my FTS test first and they didn't mention anything.. and then i called back to book my dating ultrasound

Fellow Canadian here! It is normal to have your first ultrasound at 12 weeks. The ultrasound clinic wants you to have a dating ultrasound because it’s really important to have the NT scan at the right time. I would just call your doctors office, tell the receptionist that the ultrasound clinic wants a dating ultrasound prior to booking you a Nt scan. They can just forward to requisition to the ultrasound clinic. Hopefully you can get a dating scan and see your little babe early! 😊
