Is my MIL overstepping?

How would you feel if someone had more items for your child than you had but the items that they are getting are to stay at their home?

They used their own money to pay for things to be used when caring for your child at their home...why in the world would you get mad at that? 🤨

My MIL had a whole nursery for my daughter with the hottest new items.  I hardly had anything (was only 18 and had hg so wasn’t working much), just the absolute necessities.  She thought my daughter would be spending tons of nights over at her house.  She never spent a single night there, she actually only saw her a few times her first year of life, and now hasn’t seen her in 14 years.  So she wasted a whole lot of money but that’s on her 😂

My MIL is doing the same thing. She has purchased things for us, but her house’s nursery is all done. Which is so so so weird to me. The lady doesn’t even have a relationship with me, yet she thinks this grandchild is going to magically spend all it’s time at their house. Like what???

My MILdid this, she also threw a baby shower for herself ... so my husband & I in turn never let our son go to her house 🤷🏽‍♀️.

Nah, just wait until she calls your baby hers and then calls herself mommy and pretty much changes everything you do.

Yes I agree it's pretty weird and kind of selfish she is trying to stock herself up on baby stuff before you. Also unlike another poster suggested, SHE should work on having a better relationship with YOU if she wants to start assuming care of your child, not the other way around. You definitely shouldn't feel obligated to let her take the baby just because she bought a bunch of stuff for it.

My mom has just as much stuff as I do. Though I did work graveyard after my child was born so she stayed with her a lot, it’s also super nice to already have everything I need when I go over there with her. But if the baby won’t be spending a lot of time over there then it’s kinda weird. But at least she’s wasting her own money, not yours 🤷🏻‍♀️

When I was pregnant with our first. My MIL insisted that he would be coming home with her directly out of the hospital. Uh no! MIL's are crazy!

I would have a problem with it regardless if it were my mom or my MIL.

My husbands step mom did the same thing when we had our son. Mind you this lady is a raging alcoholic who smokes cigarettes and weed and is legit phsyco. And she had a whole set up for him thinking we were gonna let her keep him overnight starting at 4 weeks old.. which is crazy to me. I became a stay at home mom once my son was born and he was exclusively breastfed so there was never a reason for him to stay the night with anyone. And I wouldn't trust her with my dog let alone my baby. My husband feels the same way thankfully so it's not an issue between my husband and i. Once she figured out we were not leaving our son there she gave all the stuff away without even asking if we needed any of it

My MIL does the same. When it came down to DS needing a toddler bed, instead of offering to buy us one she bought one for her house. My husband made our sons bed and I love it anyway. Now with baby two we need some of DS baby furniture in the nursery and need to get him a new dresser. She made a comment about me buying things new so fast instead of trying to find them at garage sales, but then asked if I would take their dresser so she could buy the one that matched DS bed. My son only spends the night a couple times a month so it doesn’t make sense to me.

Is my MIL overstepping?
