Gastroschisis on 12 week ultrasound
Hello, mom’s! I am a 31-year-old surgery resident. I am 12 weeks pregnant with my first baby, and I just found out he has gastroschisis. It’s something I operated on during my pediatric surgery rotations, but never thought it would be something that happened to us. Cliche, I know. I just really hope he doesn’t have intestinal atresia. The maximum time I can take off of residency if I use all sick leave and vacation is 6 weeks, and I can’t stand the idea of returning to work while he is still in a NICU. I meet with the MFM Monday and hope to have more clarity after that. In the meantime, if I’m being perfectly honest, I am scared.
