Parents want me to get rid of my dog
So, I wasn’t sure where to post this, but my husband and I have been living with my parents since December. We planned on moving in so we could save money to buy our first home. During those months we’ve focused on paying off as much debt as possible so that we can get approved for a home loan. Anyway, it’s taking longer than we thought it would and my parents are okay with us being here- besides our dog. He is honestly crazy and I have a very indifferent relationship with him, but my kids and husband love him. The issue is, he barks incessantly. At my parents, in their own home. He’s not aggressive, and he never acts on the barking, but any time a door opens in the house he starts barking. Any time he sees my parents, he barks at them, any time he hears my dads voice he barks. It’s annoying. We’ve tried everything to get him comfortable with my dad, having my dad give him treats, having my dad ignore it completely to see if that helps, having my dad pet him (my dog runs away). There’s literally no reason why he does it, he just does it. Here recently, he started jumping over my parents fence. It’s a 6ft tall chain link, he basically climbs up it. But he jumps into the front yard and barks at them, jumps all over the doors and scratches them up. He pulled paneling down around the door we let him out of because he has this crazy separation anxiety and can’t be away from us for more than 10 seconds. Seriously, I can’t let him outside by himself EVER. And I can’t leave him inside because he chews up shoes and kids toys. So he’s in his kennel if we’re not home, and it breaks my heart. I should also add my parents have a dog, who’s like 1/4th of my dogs size and he attacks my dog every time they’re near each other. I can’t wait to move, but our finance situation is prevent us to move out and we don’t want to rent anymore. We just want to buy a house and living here has helped us so much. We’ve already paid off 6k worth of debt and have 2k saved towards a down payment. The only issue we all have boils down to my dog, and I don’t know what to do. We’ve tried shock collars, ignoring it, locking him in his kennel when he doesn’t stop. He doesn’t listen to verbal commands. He just WONT STOP BARKING. And his bark is so dee and loud we’ve had neighbors complain. It’s getting out of hand.
