Copper IUD?

Question

Has anyone tried the copper IUD before? What was your experience like? I'm thinking of switching to nonhormonal birth control.

I’ve had it for a lil over three years and like it. In the beginning it made my periods super heavy and the cramps were horrible sometimes but after the first year it kinda calmed down and now I’ll sometimes get a really heavy period or a super crampy period but it’s not as frequent now

I noticed an improvement in my mood. I was really depressed on the pill besides just depression from the environment I was in at the time. The first year I had really heavy period and bad cramps. The first couple months I had cramps so bad I’d double over while teaching which was fun to explain to my little students. But now after a year and some months have gone by my period is lighter than it ever has been, some cramps, feeling pretty good and I’m not pregnant lol

I was able to keep mine in for 1.5 years. My only complaint (and the reason I got it removed) was the cramping became unbearable. It would start a week before my period (when the pain was at its highest) and last until a few days after my period was over. So basically 75% of the time I was in pain. I also started developing benign ovarian cysts. My gyno suggested this may have been because I had switched from a BC with progesterone, which prevents cysts from forming. I’m not opposed to trying a different iud in the future though

I had it three separate times and it was always The best option for me. I had to have it removed this last time because I was having some issues which I think come from a pelvic injury that I had never had before with the other ones. It’s been a great alternative for me since I don’t like putting chemicals into my body.

It made my periods heavier and more painful so I switched to the hormonal IUD and dont get periods. Otherwise I would have kept the non hormonal iud
