How long can I ask people to stay away?

My MIL is way psyched for her grandchild, she's obsessed, so are the rest of my in laws, but they just fawn and get in the way they don't actually help, so I'm forgoing having my own mom come to stay in hopes I can keep them away longer, but how long can I reasonably ask they stay away? My husband is a complete mama's boy and thought his mom would be allowed at the birth, when I said no he thought for sure immediately after and I've still said no. I feel not having my mom come makes it "fair" but honestly I can't stand my MIL on a good day and she will want to take my baby (think bilbo with the ring from lord of the rings) and I will lose it on her.

Honestly, asking them to stay away will probably cause more issues. I would set very strict boundaries like you can come for 30 minutes at this time and then you need to leave. They can watch baby during that time while you take a shower. That way you don’t have to deal with them, get to take care of yourself, and they get to see baby.

I told my husband I don’t want to see his mothers face for at least 2 weeks, and idc if he thinks it’s unfair or not. I need that time for my hormones to go back to normal & baby blues are real.

I mean you can ask people to stay away as long as you want, but it sort of sounds like she’s going to think you’re being unreasonable regardless so just pick what feels right to you. You’re going to have to let her meet baby at some point regardless, so personally I wouldn’t wait too long. 
We’re going to ask people not to come visit at the hospital because I was really overwhelmed with visitors after my first, and I want my firstborn to meet his brother before anyone else does. The plan is to let people come visit once we’re settled at home. 
Ultimately it’s your baby and you need to do what feels right to you though!

I told My husband absolutely no visitors until we’ve been home from the hospital for two weeks. And even then they can come for two hours a day and have to get a hotel and I set a maximum for three days.

As long as you like really within reason. I’ve heard a few doctors recommending 8 weeks before visitors to allow bonding and mostly to reduce the risk of illness in the newborn so I don’t think there’s any rush. For me it’ll be over a week or two at least but I want to see how I/we feel at the time. I would just say you will need some time together first and you’ll let them know as soon as you’re ready for guests :) x

If it was me I’d allow a visit at the hospital as they have visiting hours, there is also a limit on amount of visitors at once and there is a limit on how long the visit can be and then ask for no visitors once you get home until notified otherwise, to give you and bubs a chance to settle and get into a routine. I would prefer a quick visit in a somewhat controlled environment. You could even get the nurses to support you explaining they recommend not picking up the child due to some reason if need be...

Girl, as long as you need! That is your body going through labor and your baby. Not theirs. don’t let them push their way in if you want space.
