So I've liked this guy on and off for a while, though for reasons I'll shortly explain, I tried my hardest not to.

I've just found out, weirdly at the end of an argument, that he likes me, and I know we'd be perfect together. We've known each other for four years, but only got to be close friends these past two. He's always been so sweet to me and I trust him beyond a doubt (my main issue). He's funny and so easy to talk to, but...

He's Indian. And Catholic. Which basically means that according to his parents, he's got to date a girl:

So yeah... I obviously can't ever date him, no matter how much I wish I could, because his parents would cut him off. My mum says I should maybe at least confirm that I would have in other circumstances, but that seems cruel to me. I just wanted to write it all down somewhere and maybe get some advice on whether she's right or not.

For reference he's so afraid of his parents that he won't even speak to me infront of his sister.
