Birth Story of my IUGR Baby Boy.

Court

It all started to get scary at my 36 week check up. I was measuring small... I got sent for an ultrasound where the technician really didn’t say anything.. right then and there I knew something was wrong. While waiting in the room for my doctor to come in , my partner & I were silent and scared to death.. An unfamiliar voice knocked on the door and said “coming in”, it was a new doctor one I’ve never seen. She was a specialist. I could tell by the look on her face things weren’t right. I braced myself for the news. That is when we were told she suspected I have IUGR. My son stomach and weight was below the 10 percentile .... In that moment I lost it. I cried hard... we came up with a plan to see high risk doctor and get a special ultrasound and NST twice a week , appointments twice a week . I jus cried as she told us. My doctor was a godsend, she told us to trust her and my son would come out fine. luckily we were the last appointment of the day , so I didn’t have to deal with staring .

Two days after my appointment I was sent to the hospital for special ultrasound to make sure my son was getting enough nutrients and stuff from my placenta. Turns out he wasn’t. So right then in there the ultrasound tech went and got a doctor. All I remember is these words “ you’ll be induced next week. We will call you two days before.” My partner told me he said our son wouldn’t benefit from being inside me anymore. It could actually be hurting him. So we went home finished a nursery cleaned up while we waited a long weekend for a call from our doctor. Monday comes and 9am we get a call to come in on Wednesday 8am to be induced. I got all the information. My doctor really worked hard. She got me scheduled so quick and with an amazing doctor....

Well Wednesday rolls around we wake up at 6 and we just stare at each other. We finished cleaning and packing the hospital bag. We arrived at 8am checked and was taken back to a room at 9am. They told me what would happens with being induced. I was induced with cervidil. They told me it would take up to 12 hours for my cervix to soften and then another 12 for me to go into labor. So, I wasn’t expecting anything to happen.... around 1:30 pm I started feeling cramping. I ignored it. 3:30 family arrived and my partners sister freaked out because they saw on the computer I was having contractions and I didn’t have an IV... my nurse was being rude like she no having contractions until she looked on the computer and realized I actually was. She took the cervidil out and checked me I was 3cm. She then started and IV with pitocin and fluids. I started to feel better until my back started to cramp. Around 4:40pm I couldn’t stand it any longer and ask for an epidural which came fast and relieved the pain! We all just hung out and talked. While my partner sisters made sure I was taken care of. With ice chips and special pillows. They were a big help. 6pm comes around and now I have two brand new nurses. When they came in they told me they were amazed how fast I dilated and they’ve never seen someone on cervidil dilate so fast. They checked me at 8:30 and I was 9 and a half centimeters ! They went and got the doctor and she was like I’ll be back in 30 minutes. Well I those 30 minute the nurses had me take some pushes .. the doctor came back and 5-8 pushes he was here. The NICU was there. They took him and checked him out. He only weight 4lbs 14 ounces. But he was fine. He didn’t have to go to NICU. He did have to get check every 2 hours .. but I was blessed. No time ini NICU..

He has gained weight and his average size of a 6 month old. Trust your doctor and your body.
