Am I doing something wrong?

Anna

When I breastfeed my son (9weeks old) I only feed on one side at a time. He always seems satisfied and is growing at a good rate. I am pretty sure I have an oversupply though. I have moments of feeling engorged and have to hand express even when I’m on my period. My let down is so fast that he basically chokes on the milk so I unlatch him, catch excess, and then continue nursing. When it comes time to nurse from my right side again It is quite engorged. In fact I will feed from right, left, right in a 6 hour span and when I am feeding from my left breast the right is already very fully (not painful but I am afraid of clogged ducts and if I am too full to latch without expressing some first). I know i could feed from both sides each nursing session but since I’m fairly certain I overproduce I am afraid that he won’t get the hind milk if I do that or empty my breasts completely. Somehow I have been lucky enough to not have experienced any clogged ducts but I feel like unless I get this overproducing thing under control I will. I don’t know if I have a specific question in here I guess I am just asking for advice? What would you do? Does this sound ok, should I just continue how I am going? how do you avoid clogged ducts?

Side note: when it comes time to nurse from my right side again I am in minor pain over the engorgement and will express a little maybe 30 minutes before he feeds because of it.
