Our story
Me and my boyfriend didn’t plan on getting pregnant. In fact, because we had previously had 2 miscarriages together, and I had had 2 before I met him, we figured we wouldn’t have kids.
I always wanted children, but it seemed so out of reach. He didn’t necessarily ever want to have children. We stopped trying, and thought it would never happen.
We found out on July 28th that we were pregnant, for the third time. We thought it wouldn’t last. We thought we would lose her like we’d lost her siblings. She chose to stay.
The pregnancy was rough. For the first 6 months I was too sick to keep any food or drinks down, and was consistently losing weight, while staying at a constant weight due to her getting bigger.
I suffered through many medical issues caused by the pregnancy. Gestational Diabetes, Cholestasis caused by sludge in my Gall Bladder, increases in kidney stones that I was already producing, etc.
I became a high risk pregnancy, and was put on bed rest. This caused a ton of stress for my partner, as he became the only one who could work, and all the bills fell onto his shoulders. He also was stressed worrying about me and his child, because it came to the point that we could have lost her at any moment.
My doctor decided to induce us early. We were set to be induced at 3pm on March 7th. They were unable to get us in until 9pm, but once in we started the process of trying to slowly induce labor.
About 12 hours in, the doctors started noticing drops in her heart rate. They were coinciding with contractions I was having, but was not feeling. The doctors became worried, but wanted to see if everything would be ok, so we just remained monitored.
At 9pm on March 8th the doctor came in to tell us that I would be unable to birth my child vaginally. As the contractions got worse, to the point where I could feel them, her heart rate would drop more drastically with each one. She wouldn’t have made it had we continued with labor.
9:30pm they began an emergency c-section. My partner with me the whole time, worrying about our baby. The only thought in my head was “will she be able to make it?”
9:45pm we heard her cry. 9:45pm they allowed me to see her through the curtain. At 9:45pm our little girl was brought into this world and I cried knowing that my baby had mad it.
Seeing her father hold her for the first time made my heart skip a beat, and seeing the man that once told me he didn’t want children smile and almost cry holding his daughter warmed my in ways that nothing else ever has.
She is now 2 days old, and as healthy as she can be, and we are looking forward to bringing her home.
I’m still in shock and awe at how someone as precious and beautiful as her has come from me.
