Who has stepparents or is one?

Question

Are you a stepparent to your parents kid? Or are you a stepchild? What have been your experiences or have you heard of great or bad things? My partner has 2 kids and I don’t know how to build a relationship with them. I’m a little lost on how to go through with everyone. He doesn’t live with either of them and sees them occasionally due to the mothers choices of keeping the daughters away simply because he is with me and not her anymore. Help

I have a step mom and dad.
My parents separated when I was about two years old, grow up with my mom and grandparents (Didnt know or see my dad till around 17 years old), my mom remarried when I was 10 had a great relationship with my stepdad UNTILL his firat was born.. Sad but true we drifred away from each other and in my teenage years (now two children of his own) we didnt get along at all.. Was horrible living in the same house as him, but my mom and my sisters were my life and wouldn't have left cause I loved them to much. At 19 I moved out and stayed with my boyfriend (husband now), we moved 4 hours away for two years and than we moved back to our home town, once we moved back and were settled in my stepdad and I had a good talk and have had a great relationship since then its been a year and a half now.. 
Got to know my real dad at the age of 17, had a on and off relationship with his until about two years ago, him and I are really close now and his wife is amazing!!  My step mom took me in as her own even though I was already 22 (the are of her eldest granddaughter😂she is about 20 years older than my dad) her and I have an amazing relationship and I could go to her with anything no matter what it is, she is like a mother to me. 
I am truely blessed to have two moms (that are just the best) 3 half siblings and two dad..
Advice for being a step parent is dont treat them unequally, dont change how you are towards them once you have your own kids, try and be kind and supportive and let them know they have a friend in you, even when it seems like you'll never build a relationship with them don't give up. Dont try to be a parent in the start, they first need to learn to trust you and that you ate not trying to take their moms place or take their dad away from them (you going to get that a lot)

I’m a step mom and I have step parents. We have full custody of my step son who is 5 and have since he was 11 months old. He only knows me as mommy so our relationship is very close. The only tip I can give is respect your partners parental decisions. I stand behind my husband in any choice he makes and never try to over power him. I constantly communicate when it comes to decisions for my step son even though I have the authority to make most of them without his say. Don’t ever disrespect the moms even though it will be hard. I’ve never said mean things to her and always responded politely. I’ve also always encouraged communication between my husband and her—- he can’t stand to talk to her because she doesn’t ever care to discuss their son and only wants to talk about their history and how they should get back together. He just responds with how their son is doing and ignores it!

I don’t call the fiancé of my mom “dad” I just call him by his name. I’m dating with a man who has a kid but I’m not in the picture of me meeting his kid yet.

My mom remarried when I was 7. So I have always had a step dad since then. I’m respectful to my step dad. But all we do is greet each other and catch up when I visit my mom and him. I’m not super close but I am cordial and respectful. You don’t have to feel pressured to be super close. As long as each party is respectful towards one another that’s good enough. But to each their own.

Let the child choose who you are to them and who they want to be to you. I mean my "stepdad" is my mother's ex husband. My mothers current husband is just that HER husband. But his youngest kid is my step brother. I have never met his older kids so I dont even give them a title. On my father's side I still consider his second wife my step mom and her kids my step brothers and sisters cause I grew up with them, but I dont see his future wife ever having a title to me. My brother had different ways of seeing them, but hes older than me, so again it's when they are in your life and what part they play.

I dont have a step parent but my husband does, she joined their family after he was already out of the house though. His sister has an amazing relationship with her though (she was a freshman in high school when she became a part of the family).
