Not as the way I thought
I tried very hard not to over plan for delivery, as it was my first and was just going to roll with give punches. My due date was January 28th, but baby boy decided the 22nd was to be his birthday.
I woke up at 5:30 am for work and felt a little off, well showering I realized I was having contractions. They were 5 minutes apart around 8 am I called the doctor who told me to come in to get checked. I was just there Friday and wasn’t even 1/2 cm (it was Tuesday). We took our time and dropped off the puppy to my in laws. We got to the hospital and the contractions were now one after the other. They checked me and I was only 1 cm. I was in extreme pain as he was sunny side up so my back felt like it was slowly breaking with no break between contractions. The resident doctor was going to send me home. But thankfully the nurse was listening to me that something wasn’t right, she had me try drinking water to slow the contractions but I end up throwing it up on me and her. So she got an iv started, “because with an Iv they won’t send you home.” Her exact words. They gave me a pill for the pain but it didn’t touch the pain. So since I still was just 1 cm they gave me a shot of morphine before moving me out of triage to a room.
That lasted all of 10 minutes of relief. When I switched beds my water broke, so they checked me again and I was 3 cm. It was now about noon. The pain was unbearable, so they would let me get an epidural. That happened around 1. All I could now feel was a ton of pressure each contraction. They came to check me and my water broke more and it was blood. His heart rate was dropping each contraction, so they tried to put fluid back in to float him off the cord. But that filled up with blood and the drops were getting worse. It was now about 4 pm and they had me sign the papers for a c-section. My doctor checked me and I was 8 cm. The baby need to come out quick, so she said I could try pushing the last to cm away and they could use forceps but if his heart rate dropped much more I was be rushed for a csection. With 3 push’s the cm were gone and 2 more he was out. He wasn’t breathing well and was rushed away. It turns out my placenta started to detached before he came out which cause the non stop contractions. Thankfully he was healthy and fine just spent 5 days in the special care nursery. I’m so thankful for the nurses and my doctor keeping us calm that we didn’t know the severity of situation until afterwards.
Thankfully pregnancy and recovery was easy just a tough labor, but wouldn’t change it as our rainbow baby arrived healthy and perfect.
