My unexpected natural birth story!!

Alyssa

So starting off 2 weeks before I gave birth I was dilated to 1cm, the next week (which was the week before I gave birth which was a Monday) I was dilated to 5cm so I was sent to labor and delivery where they watched me for and hour and I didn’t progress any but I was having irregular contractions so they sent me home to wait until labor would start on it’s own. On that Friday, 5 days after being sent home from labor and delivery I was having cramps all day long once I laid down and tried to go to sleep the cramping got worse so I decided to go to labor and delivery again!

We got to the hospital and they check me and I was 6cm and having contractions every 5 mins! 2 hours later the Doctor came in and broke my water, I was dilated to a 7. My nurse went ahead and called the anesthesiologist to get my epidural going. (It hurt so bad which was weird bc with my 1st baby I didn’t feel the epidural procedure at all) My legs were numb for about 30 mins then after that I started feeling EVERYTHING. every contraction. The anesthesiologist came back in and shot something else through the epidural which didn’t work at all. By this point I’m crying with every contraction so my husband went and got the nurse and she came in and checked me and I was 9 and half cm so she said she would come back in 15 mins to check me again. Not even a minute after she walked out the door I was screaming at my husband to go get the doctor bc I couldn’t stop my body from pushing!

The doctor came in and all the nurses once I started pushing I don’t remember much bc how much pain I was feeling at the time. I do know I only pushed for 20 mins and he was out. The doctor had to make a cut in my downstairs and I had a 1st degree tear. Once my baby came out it was such a relief, all the intense pain went away.

It’s very unfortunate that my epidural didn’t work, I wish there was a way I could have known it wasn’t going to work bc I definitely wouldn’t have got it. It was meds that my baby got that obviously weren’t needed. But I am proud to say that I had a natural birth without planning too. So to any moms out there who plan to have natural birth and also to the moms who have had natural births already I give all yall props bc that shit isn’t easy and it is very scary but totally worth it once you have your baby laying on your chest. I wouldn’t change any of it even if I could. ❤️
