I still don't understand the idea behind carpeting. It's hard to clean, it stains, catches dust and fur. 
My house has marble flooring including bathrooms. They look better and so much easier to clean.

Carpet in the bedrooms. Hardwood in the living and dining room. Tile in the baths and kitchen.

We had carpet before. Never again. Its really the dirtiest thing out there. I found that out, when we pulled it up, gross. With my sons allergies especially we can never have carpet again.

Slowly converting to wood floor. Still have carpet in 1 room but with our dogs the carpet collects so much hair and dust

Neither. Tiles. With four dogs and three cats, there's not a chance I'm going to spend all my time trying to vacuum the fur out the carpets.

Hardwood floors (except bathroom and kitchen) with area rugs in every room except the master. I can't stand them.

We have carpet, wood, tile, and laminate in our house 
- wood in home entrance, powder room, and formal dining.
- tile in kitchen, living room, both upstairs bathrooms
- carpet on stairs/upstairs hallway, all 3 bedrooms 
- laminate in laundry room. 
If I had it my way the stairs/hallway, living room and bedrooms would all be wood, with tile in the kitchen and bathrooms. And just have area rugs and runners... but that's because I love rugs 😂

Tile downstairs (living area/dining/kitchen) and carpet upstairs (bedrooms) 
I have rugs in some of the tiled areas as well.
I like having hard floors in the downstairs areas because that's the area most like to have dirt and other messes dragged around.
