Helpful info for first time moms
I just wanted to share some information that I’ve found helpful or learned throughout my pregnancy. Anyone else can feel free to add to this.
When you first find out you’re pregnant call your OB and schedule an appointment. Don’t be surprised if they don’t have you come in until you’re 6-12 weeks. Unless you’re high risk it’s not necessary before then.
If you do get an early ultrasound (3-6 weeks) you probably won’t see much of anything, most of the time probably not even a heartbeat and this is OK
There isn’t a whole lot of foods you should be avoiding. But you should definitely avoid foods high in mercury, raw meat, deli meat (you can if you warm it up I’ve actually ate deli meat the whole pregnancy but do what you and your doctor feel is right) raw eggs, raw shellfish, You would need to avoid soft cheeses such as brie, Camembert, Roquefort, feta, Gorgonzola, and Mexican style cheeses that include queso blanco and queso fresco, unless they clearly state that they are made from pasteurized milk,
Unwashed veggies, alcohol (duh)
Limit caffeine but if you’re a big caffeine drinker like I was I just cut down to two caffeinated beverages a day until I gave it up completely.
Cramping is normal, everything is starting to stretch and grow so it might hurt sometimes. You should only be concerned about bright red blood. Some brown blood or spotting might happen and that is ok. Always call your doctor if you’re concerned.
Having no symptoms is ok, some days you will have a bunch and other days you will have none.
Not everyone gets morning sickness, it’s ok if you don’t and consider yourself lucky! I had it from 5weeks-19 and even sometimes still get sick. Some people get it the whole pregnancy
Everyone shows differently, the beginning you’ll mostly just be bloated though. I didn’t get a bump until I was 21 weeks but I was overweight already.
I started to feel baby move around 18 weeks. Some days baby moves more than other, baby doesn’t start moving consistently until around 28 weeks.
It’s ok to have sex even in the early weeks. It will not make you have a miscarriage. Unless your doctor tells you otherwise keep doing what you were
