What Not to Say to Pregnant Women

So we all get unsolicited advice the second we announce we’re pregnant. People lose their freaking minds and all sense of decency, I swear. We could be mad about it, or find the humor in it (I am of the opinion of calling people out on what they say and then laugh about it later).

Personally, I’ve been fortunate with not a lot of people being obnoxious to me. I must have a look on my face that says “don’t try me.” That being said, it’s still happened. My aunt in particular i can ALWAYS count on to say something stupid, pretty much always directed at my weight. She’s that judgmental person that fixates on other people’s weight and makes it known, so she’s been doing this to me since I was 15. Anyway, the gems I’ve gotten so far?

“What shirt size are you now? 3x?” (This was in November and I’d gained 10 lbs since finding out I was pregnant in July...and I was wearing a size large that wasn’t even that tight; although I LOVE wearing tight shirts throughout my pregnancy)

“It’ll burn some calories!” (Said while I was opening shower gifts last month...said very loudly)

“How’s IT doing?” At this point, everyone has known we’re having a girl for MONTHS and she just really put emphasis on IT and IT bothered me. And she poked my stomach too. Like wtf? Just jabbed her finger right into it.

“Oh your daughters probably not gonna be as good as Rebekah (my brothers daughter). She’s probably gonna be fussy and bitchy!” (Said by an older friend from church, who has zero kids and zero bedside manner with kids)

“You’re STILL eating?” (Same church friend)

These are my gems. What are yours? I know some women have it SO much worse. Truly I’ve forgotten a LOT of ignorance that’s been said to me bc I refuse to hold onto the negativity brought on by stupid people. These have carried on to jokes between me and my mom at this point so I’ve chosen to find the amusement (I still call people out, and personally think every woman should 🤷‍♀️)
