When I go to get tested for a UTI, how long will it take to get the lab results back?

I have an appointment tomorrow, but I would hate to have to wait the entire weekend to start my Antibiotics 😕

When I get one they usually have the results ready before I even leave the doctors room so they can write a prescription on the spot.

Everytime I've been tested for a UTI it only takes like 10 mins. If the doctor decides to do a culture it could take a few days.

A UA is done in office. They only take about 5 minutes, if that. We have a machine that analyzes ours and takes a minute to do so. If they send for a culture then it can take anywhere from 24-72 hours to get the results back. A physician will generally start you on antibiotics even if you need a culture done. If your culture comes back resistant to the medication you’re on then the physician will inform you and change your meds.

Typically when I would get tested they would take a urine sample at the office then they could tell by the time the appointment was over if I had one based on the urine. They’d then send it out to make sure but if they thought i had one they’d give me antibiotics.

Usually you should get the result within a couple of hours. So they can get you on antibiotics. If you go to a urgent care you get the results faster then a doctors office.

Took me two weeks~ but it’s because the doctor waited to read the results.  It should be back in 2-5 business days
