First gyno appt!!

I'm 16 and I have my first gyno appt here in a few weeks. I know I'm supposed to be getting birth control, but I don't know if my mom made the exam appointment too. If I end up being examined I have an idea of what to expect, but I'm scheduled to be on my period during that time. Any tips?? TIA
