Sold to an undercover minor at work by mistake 😓
so basically I sold cigarettes to an undercover minor at work (in Kansas) because I asked her birthday and she said “02” but I heard “92” for her birth year. So now I have to go to court unless they decide they have more important stuff going on and dont press charges. If charges are pressed I’ll have like a $200-$400 fine and 6 months unsupervised probabtion most likely but I'm already on unsupervised probation right now for another month and that's a violation to my probation that I have right now I'm pretty sure? so I'm curious about what's going to happen since I am on unsupervised probabtion and not supervised probation. what do you guys think or if this has happened to you what was the result?
Edit: my store doesn’t require that we see an ID we just either have to see the ID or ask for a birthdate if we believe they look of age. If I do believe someone is too young I card them of course but if I believe someone is of age I don’t because most times they will get upset with me for asking for the ID. This girl looked over 25 btw (Doesn’t matter I know but still). This is my first cashier job and I don’t buy cigarettes so I didn’t realize it was uncommon. I just wanted advice so if everyone could stop being rude about it that would be great. 🤗
2nd edit: I know I screwed up guys. Believe me WELL AWARE. People make mistakes. and I SHOULDVE CARDED HER INSTEAD. I’m not saying that mishearing her is the reason it’s okay because obviously its not okay no matter what. Im just saying what happened in the situation and why it happened. I’m not afraid of the consequences Or dealing with them I just wanted to see if anyone had gone through this or something similar so I know what to expect when the time comes.
3rd edit: wow after all the shitty comments I was getting at first I thought understanding and kindness was gone completely but THANK YOU SO MUCH to the people that have stood up for me, helped me realize I didn’t commit the worst crime in the world, and for just saying kind things. I definitely didn’t come here for sympathy or anything like that, i mainly was just looking for some legal advice. I definitely expected a FEW bad comments because some people just suck but nothing like what I received. I was blown away by all the hate in the comments. I pray none of you that made me feel like shit ever make a mistake in your lives because you apparently wouldn’t be able to handle it as you obviously think mistakes never happen. For the nice people though, your guys’ kind words have helped more than I could’ve imagined. I definitely know what I did is in No WAY okay but everyone fucks up sometimes and I’m just so glad some people understand that whether they could give legal advice or not. ❤️
